Auditory Systems Laboratory

  • Application of methods and instrumentation of ergonomics, acoustics, and human engineering to solve problems of information display, product design, and hearing conservation.
  • Calibrated facilities for ANSI- and ISO-standardized testing of passive and electronic hearing protection devices, including Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) testing and Active Noise Reduction device evaluation.
  • Research and development on hearing protection, communications headsets, hearing-assistive devices, and auditory displays and warning signals.
  • Research on noise annoyance and other noise effects on humans, including community noise and industrial noise.
  • Research on vehicular and aircraft acoustics, including in-vehicle/in-cockpit noise and auditory displays.
  • Research and Design concerning Speech intelligibility and signal detection.
  • Usability testing of auditory and other products using a human factors engineering approach.
